Current Activities and Research Interests

During my PhD at Tilburg University (The Netherlands), I have been involved in a project about the role of contexts in face recognition. I have used behavioral and event-related potential (ERP) methods to investigate how we recognize facial identities and expressions of emotions in emotional contexts. We found that recognition of facial expressions was faster when emotional contexts were congruent, for example fearful expressions that were accompanied by fearful scenes. In addition, by using ERPs we found that emotional contexts affect the N170 for face processing, which suggests that early stage of face encoding might be affected by contextual information .

I am now a post-doc researcher at the LabNIC and at the National Centre of Competence in Research Affective Sciences in Geneva. I am involved in experiments about face and emotion perception, for which I mainly use behavioral and ERP methods, but I am also interested in using other methods of analyzing data and multimodal neuroimaging techniques (e.g., EEG/fMRI combined).
